Pistol Permits Office Hours and Information

Please Note:

  • The ATN Applicant Transaction Number received from the State is NOT the Pistol Permit Application. 
  • Bridgeport Police Department does NOT accept electronic pistol permit applications. Applications must be submitted in person, by appointment only. 
  •  The 60 Day Temporary Pistol Permit Application must be submitted in person (directly to a staff member), at the Permits window, at 300 Congress Street. By appointment only. 
  • You MUST be a Bridgeport Resident to apply for a 60 Day Temporary Pistol Permit.
  • Pistol Permit applications can only be submitted by appointment. Pistol Permits applications must be submitted prior to being given a code for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting will be completed at appointment, after application is submitted.
  • The Fee for a Pistol Permit is $70.00, paid by money order or certified bank check.
  • Pistol Permit Applications can only be submitted by appointment. 
  • Fingerprinting for Pistol Permits is done after application submission
  • Please note if you are submitting an NRA Certificate the course certificate must be within 5 years of the date of application submission. As of July 1st, 2024- The course certificate date must be within 2 years of the date of the application submission to be accepted by Statute. 

    As of May 1st,2024, Pistol Permit Candidates will be required to obtain a ATN tracking ID at your fingerprint appointment, at the time of appointment, upon submitting your completed application, Bridgeport Police Department will provide you the code needed for fingerprinting. If your application is not complete and any documents are missing, you will have to reschedule your appointment. Payment for the State of Connecticut is $75, and the FBI is $13.25 and will be processed through this website. (Please bring a credit card to your appointment to complete the enrollment process. The City of Bridgeport will still require a payment of $70 the day you submit your pistol permit application in the form of a money order, or a bank check made payable to: CITY OF BRIDGEPORT. NO personal checks, cash, or credit cards are accepted. 

    Paperwork will not be accepted incomplete. Fingerprints for pistol permit can only be done at the Bridgeport Police Department. Pistol Permit Application can only be submitted at the time of fingerprinting appointment. You will be required to bring a credit card, completed notarized application and all supporting documents, your driver's license and fingerprinting payment with you to your appointment.

Under the State of Connecticut General Statutes, citizens have:

  • A right to request and obtain an application to apply for a permit to carry a pistol or revolver.
  • A right to submit an application for a permit to carry a pistol or revolver no more than one week after their request to do so.
  • A right to be informed, in writing, of the result of their application to carry a pistol or revolver within eight (8) weeks of the submission of the application.
  • A right to file an appeal in the event of a denial of a permit for the carrying of a pistol or revolver.
  • A state and federal constitutional right to own, possess and carry a firearm for the protection of the individual’s home or family as the individual so lawfully chooses.
